crunchy crunchy, at least it missed the mirror and the door handles and glass are ok.
I clipped a parking lot light pole base in my wife’s Impreza, not even doing anything fun.
I was looking at our daughter in the rear view mirror, out of my periphery I saw the yellow bollard go past and I must have assumed I was at the end of the row, looked left and the was no traffic started the turn, looked at the mirror again to talk to the kid once more and clipped the light pole base.
Apparently, they put the bollards a few feet back from the light pole bases but they don’t put them after they bases. Suffice to say, Wife is pissed, our daughter is OK though and only said “What Noise?” as the body work crunched into the pole.
Any guesses on how much this will cost to repair?
The area in front of the rear wheel, it is pushed inward and the paint took a real beating, the door latches and is still water tight.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

Damn, to be honest this is why when I talk to my friends I don’t turn my head towards them or try to make eye contact with them in the rear view. One second of not paying attention and boom, luckily it was just a pole but just as easily could’ve been a person or worse a little kid.

To fix it right is probably more than it’s worth to you to fix it - I’d guess at least $3k to have it done right at a body shop. What I’d probably do if I was you would be to pull the door card off, and massage that dent back out. Then, clean and prep the damaged areas well and do your best to blend it with Duplicolor. From 20ft it’ll look just fine.

3k minimum, based off recent similar incidents. One thing that happened when my wife did that was the paint on the inside of the door (the inner edge where it meets the interior) was flaking, which was indicative of the entire door flexing. Therefore, new door, as ot could not be verified that there was no damage to crash structures. If you’re tackling the repair yourself, something to check first.

That’s kinda what I was thinking of doing once it warms up some. I don’t feel like pulling the door apart when temps are routinely in the single digits. I look at replacement doors. color matched take offs are $550-600 each, unpainted bare doors are $250-300

Yeah it was a stupid thing to do, first accident in 16 years of driving though, I guess my number was up.

Pretty sure “the wrinkles will fall out after a few weeks.”
Sorry, had to be done. But in all honesty, my stepdad’s E61 got totaled ba insurance after a pretty similar mishap. In the end the repair bill would have been around € 8k.

You could also try and get lucky and find a color-matched one in a local puller’s yard. The only issue then would be your pinstripe. Can’t blame you for waiting on this to be a spring project, haha. Obviously just make sure no bare metal is exposed to the salt and moisture.

I’ll wait a bit and if they don’t we’ll break out the iron :)

You can reduce the cost of the repair by buying some used doors of the same colour from an auto recycler. Just search car-part.com. You can probably get what you need for around $500
That’s the ‘Tavarish’ method of fixing up a car in a budget-friendly way.
Then you’ll just have small section by the wheel well... which you can make to look ‘okay’ with some touch up paint.
And in the end, the car will look practically as good as before at less than 1/3 of the cost.

Not if just buys used doors of the same colour, installs them himself and then uses some touch up paint on the section by the wheel well.
Taking that route will result in it looking practically as good as before at 1/3 of the cost or less.
This isn’t some rare collectible car where 100% originality is important.

Also a good idea - he’d just have to get the pinstripe redone on the doors or removed on the rest of the car.

Related to my last reply to you... read this and note how Tavarish handled the damaged doors on this M3 he restored:

Oversteered into a guard rail at relatively low speed, ended up being $1600 for similar quarter panel and door damage. Given you have an extra door quite a bit more.
Also depends on the repair. If they just fill it in and paint over it, maybe not too bad, but if they have to cut and replace the panel and the door shells that car might be reaching totaled territory.
